For centuries in England, families would gather in the kitchen on "Stir-up Sunday", usually the Sunday following Thanksgiving, to combine the ingredients, and make wishes in advance. A special sixpence coin was added. The pudding was soaked in brandy and set flaming after Christmas dinner.
